DISABLED PARKING
There are a limited number of ADA (handicapped) parking spaces available on the State Capital grounds that are first-come-first-served and located just outside the Capitol building off the circle drive near its south side basement entrance:
- Enter the drive off of 14th and Sherman.
- Drive up to the barrier with the automatic arm and call box.
- Tell the guard you are going to the ADA (disabled) parking and the gate/arm will be opened to let you in.
- Park in an open ADA space at the south side (14th Ave.) of the building — access the building through this ADA entrance.
There are also a couple of ADA spaces on Sherman between 14th and 13th.
Of course, you may park in any metered space. [Click here for street map.] Meters that are bagged are reserved and should not be used. Parking at a bagged space will result in ticket and/or towing: regardless of a handicapped tag. With a valid disability placard or plate, per Denver’s Disability Parking Ordinance [Click here]: “A person with a mobility impairment using a valid disability placard or plate issued to them may park at Denver City meters for up to four (4) hours without paying during the time parking is allowed. After 4 hours, the vehicle must be moved at least 100 feet.” See Meter Parking for those with Disabilities.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
The Capitol is located one block southeast of Civic Center Station, which can be accessed by Light Rail from the 16th Street Mall. Check with RTD (www.rtd-denver.com) for specific schedules.
Please be sure to RSVP to Caitlin Westerson at caitlin.westerson@nmss.org.
We hope to see you there!
